We encourage fosters to share pictures and a bio of the animal(s) in their care. This helps with the adoption process and is a huge boost to finding forever homes. Please send all pictures and bios to foster@souldog.org and I’ll be sure the animals profile gets updated. Potty-training is a huge plus for potential adopters so if your animal has this down, please let us know!
The keys to finding our animals great homes is their bio and amazing pictures. Pictures should be varied and show both close-ups and full-body shots. When taking pictures on an iPhone, portrait mode is a game-changer for great pictures! They are clear and concise. If you just can’t get good pictures of your foster animal, please do not hesitate to reach out and we can find someone to come over and photograph the foster. This is a great time to ask in the foster/volunteer group on Facebook!
The more info in bios the better! Both good and not great info should be shared to find a great fit. Potty-training is a huge plus for potential adopters so if your animal has this down, please let us know! People like to know if the animal is housebroken, good with kids, cats and dogs, so that is a great starting point for any bio.
Here is a good article on adoptions profiles:

All fosters will be required to attend a minimum of one (1) adoption event per month. This is the bare bones minimum and we encourage you to attend more as well as taking your fully vaccinated (at least two (2) vaccines after 4 months of age) to breweries, parks, and other dog-friendly locales in seek of potential adopters. We do have "adopt me" vests available at the shelter.
Every Saturday and some Sunday’s we hold off-site adoption events. Sometimes there are even events during the week. These are great ways for your foster animal to be seen and to greatly increase their odds of adoption! You can find our event locations every week in our Facebook foster/volunteer group. We also send out emails in the event that you are not on social media.
If your dog or puppy is fully vetted, they are eligible to go to adoption events. You will have the option to sign up via a google form! Due to the amount of paperwork and logistics that go into prepping for such adoption events, we do ask for a commitment to attend by Wednesday evening, the week of the event.
As the summer season approaches, the number of events and opportunities to get your animals seen will increase. We will include the events listings that are available to fosterers in bi-weekly emails. We do need to reiterate the importance of getting your foster animals to events on a regular basis. It is not always necessary to stay with your foster during an event -- this will be stipulated depending on the event! Please reach out with any questions!
If you, or somebody you know wants to adopt, you/they will fill out a regular adoption application at www.souldog.org. Our Adoptions Coordinators can assist you with any adoption questions you may have. That email is adopt@souldog.org. Someone will process any adoption applications that come in for your fosters and send you the applicants’ information once approved as an adopter.
ADOPTERS CANNOT take our animal into their care until surgery day unless they do a foster to adopt first. ADOPTERS are not allowed to take any of our animals into their care until they have officially adopted the animal. This is very important.
Many fosters appreciate having some decision-making power when it comes to the animals that they have cared for. We appreciate this and encourage fosters to be involved in the adoption of their animals. It’s usually easiest if you don’t mind, for you to keep communication with the adopters you pick. If you aren’t comfortable doing that, then we can.
If you do not wish to engage in the adoption process and prefer to let Soul Dog staff adopt out the animal(s) in your care, let us know.
You are allowed to post and share your fosters with the world, but I cannot post them for adoption until they have a surgery date scheduled if they aren’t fixed yet. Our animals are not legally allowed to be adopted until they are fully vetted.
If the animal isn’t fixed yet, when we have a surgery date scheduled I will list the animal for pre-adoption online. Shelter staff or adoption volunteers will approve or deny adoption applications that come in. If approved, they will send you the potential adopters’ name and contact info. You would then reach out to set up a meet and greet with that person. It’s ok for them to come meet the animal in your home. If you aren't comfortable with that, you can pick a public place or even our shelter. Just let shelter staff or adoption volunteers know.
Just because they come to meet doesn’t mean they WILL be adopting the animal. It’s important the animal likes them, and you do too! We want good forever fits. Feel free to discuss your thoughts with shelter staff or adoption volunteers. If the potential adopter has dogs and/or kids, they must all meet the animal they are interested in before an adoption can proceed.
The potential adopter needs to fill out an adoption application at www.souldog.org/adopt. Our Adoptions Coordinators will process the application and reach out if she has any questions. Once approved, the adopter will go to our shelter in Fort Lupton to fill out our adoption contract and pay the animals adoption fee. Once the paperwork and fee is done, the adopter is allowed to take the animal into their care.
Unless it’s a special situation, fully vetted animals are not allowed to be foster to adopted. Only animals who aren’t fully vetted yet qualify.
Fill out a regular adoption application at www.souldog.org. Ella, our Foster Adoptions Coordinator or one of our amazing volunteers will process the application and reach out if she has any questions. Once approved, you’ll fill out foster to adopt paperwork, and pay the animals adoption fee. There is a refundable $125 surgery deposit fee that will be refunded after surgery if you get the vaccines done on time and go to the scheduled surgery date.
Please Note: If you have not notified us of your intent to adopt your foster prior to the spay/neuter date, you will go into a queue with other potential adoptions candidates and may not be selected to adopt your foster.

The adopter will be treated just like a foster. Adopters will need to bring the animal in for vaccines on time and the spay/neuter appointment. On surgery day, the adopter will finalize the adoption when they go in to pick the animal up from surgery.

Once approved the foster will continue to foster the animal until spay/neuter day. On surgery day, the foster brings the animal in for surgery in the morning. After surgery, in the afternoon, the adopter arrives at the shelter to finalize the adoption and pick the animal up from surgery.
If you decide that you want to adopt your foster, the sooner you let us know, the better. Once the dog is listed for adoption or pre-adoption, it means that they are eligible for applications from the public. It is much easier for a foster to adopt their foster animal BEFORE any public applications come in. Please fill out an adoption application for your foster as soon as you can, as this is a state requirement.
