Vaccines and Sterilization

CANINE VACCINES AND STERILIZATION:

When you get home with your foster and send me their information, I will send you their vaccine schedule. Following the vaccine schedule is extremely important.

Foster vaccine days are Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. On vaccine days you’ll bring the animals to our shelter between 10:00am-2:00pm. For puppies, please leave them in the car and go inside to sign in, the shelter staff member can come to your car to vaccinate unless they tell you the puppy/puppies can be brought inside. If you have cats or kittens, you can take them inside. This is first come, first serve. You may have to wait.

Confirm back with me via email each time your animal(s) get a vaccine. I’ll be the one to schedule their surgery and I like to be sure vaccines get documented correctly.

The below vaccine schedule is an example only and will not be your fosters vaccine schedule.

A typical vaccine schedule for a puppy:

  • 05/21 – 1st vaccine due, vaccines must be spaced out every 2 weeks.
  • 06/04 – 2nd vaccine due
  • 06/18 – 3rd vaccine due
  • 06/25 or after – Puppy is now safe for surgery. I can schedule them for surgery on or after this date, pending available surgery dates.
  • 07/02 – 4th vaccine due

The above dates will change and be affected if one of the dates is missed. If an animal requires medication including antibiotics, it may change their vaccine schedule.

** Puppies are not safe to be in public places until they have received TWO (2) DA2PP (distemper/parvo) vaccines AFTER four-months of age.

Please keep puppies away from parks, communal areas, homes with other unvaccinated puppies or homes that have had parvo within the past two years until this vaccine threshold has been met.

Spay dates are at Soul Dog Rescue’s discretion. We have been doing pre-pubescent spay/neuter on cats/dogs since 2005. We are firm and will not waiver on our requirement for our animals to be spayed/neutered in a timely manner.

Once your foster is due for 3rd vaccine, we will be able to get their surgery spot scheduled. We typically assign surgery spots on a monthly basis.

Drop off for surgery is always between 8:00am-9:00am. It’s very important to drop off within that window and not late. Doors will lock at 9:00am so our techs can begin surgery without interruption.

Puppies and kitties can have a light breakfast the morning of surgery. If you have an adult, withhold food after midnight. Water as normal. Pickup is in the afternoon, medical will give you a better time during drop off. You will get a call when your foster is ready to be picked up. Normally it’s between 4:00pm-6:00pm.
