FOOD, FEEDING, AND TREATS

For all foster animals, please follow the guidelines on the back of the food bag for amounts to feed.

  • We recommend free-feeding puppies and kittens (12 weeks and under) to have food available to them at all times.
  • We recommend feeding all animals over 12 weeks of age twice (2x) a day (breakfast and dinner).

It is very important for all animals to have a daily routine for feeding (as well as sleeping, exercise, training, etc).

Animals that are picky eaters may need canned food added to their meals to encourage them to eat.

** Please do not ever give your foster pumpkin or anything else without shelter approval!

TREATS

We know that fosters (and adopters) love to give treats! Foster animals usually love to receive treats and usually want more, more, more. We ask that fosters exercise great restraint when it comes to treats as they can cause medical issues that can range from mild (diarrhea) to severe (ER visit).

Please only give one (no more than two) treats per day. Our animals do not receive treats in the shelter, so by adding them in quantity to a daily diet, it may cause gastro-intestinal distress.

** Please never give rawhides as treats!
